The Brief: Landmark Spark, the largest annual fundraising event for the Basilica Landmark Foundation, raises money to preserve and restore the historic Basilica of Saint Mary. In 2024, proceeds went toward repairing the 26 roof drains responsible for water damage to the structure’s interior. The Basilica Landmark Foundation and I worked together to create promotional and informational materials to be distributed prior to, during, and after the Landmark Spark gala.

As The Basilica’s Umbrellino symbolizes, we are all sustained by water — in the practicality of our day-to-day lives and through the rituals and blessings that shape our community. And yet, we’re also mindful of the need to be protected from water, giving pause to its potential harm as a force of nature. In 2024, the Basilica Landmark Foundation spearheaded a movement for managing The Basilica’s waterways: in essence, reimagining the network of pipes that distribute water appropriately throughout the campus. It was a critical opportunity to secure the iconic structure well into the future.

A Rippling Effect

With this direction, we explored how the rippling effect of water represents the exponential value of the Basilica’s fund in need. The ripples mingle generously with one another, representing how singular actions (donations) interact positively to create new shapes — new outcomes.
